The 600 is a community of people whose purpose is to live Jesus' life of humble love by and to the glory of God, believing that it alone will be our joy and will overcome the darkness in our world. We live with and among the poor, loving each other and serving the poor in practical ways. We invite others to join us through a mutual mentoring process. Our goal is that small bands of us would be sent to other dark places of the world to live the life of Jesus' humble love, believing that others would be attracted to the light and then mentored into this life with God.
Our founding community is located in Las Mangas, a small village 15 km (9 miles) from the northern coast of Honduras. In Las Mangas, we live and work with our neighbors in sustainable agricultural development, service to the poorest of the poor, and community and service based mentoring. A rustic campus called Adullam serves as home, community development center and mentoring habitat. Here volunteers can join us for 6 months or more to participate in a mutual mentoring process to find the way they are to follow Christ in his life of humble love.
Larry and Allison Smoak have been living in Las Mangas and working with The 600 full time since 1994 and are directors of Adullam.
The 600 is part of a Great Oaks International, which is a not-for-profit organization. Great Oaks is made up of people who have been involved in our work for many years in varying roles. Great Oaks International is the parent organization for The 600, Agua Viva, and GO Scholarship Fund.
Agua Viva partners with rural villages in southern Honduras to share the Living Water, Jesus, as they help bring clean drinking water to the village. Those in Agua Viva lead two trips each year, one in March and the other in November.
GO Scholarship Fund allows poor students who have a desire to study in university the opportunity. These students desire to honor Jesus with their lives and have been discipled by Larry and Allison through the Discipleship Group that they lead in Las Mangas.
